Introducing Picasso Details
Did Picasso invent modern art? So compelling is the myth of Picasso that one could be forgiven for thinking that he did. His mesmeric gaze of both matador and bull seems to hold the answer to the enigma of 20th century art.The enormity of Picasso's output, 20,000 works, and the diversity of techniques, media and styles are astonishing. Pablo Picasso used his immense talent and provocative imagery to pose the question "what is art meant to look like?" But has the personal fascination with the man obscured the originality and true meaning of his art? Introducing Picasso details how Picasso's early explorations with cubism resulted in a dynamic challenge not only to the modernists, but to the entire history of Western art.
Reviews
Picasso is just one of those names that is still so relevant and continually referenced, and his existence was so bigger than life, and his mythology so convoluted, that it seems that one could never exhaust the numerous biographies, articles, and documentaries on his life. This is definitely just an introductory offering, and could not possibly cover enough or go sufficiently in depth to do his life, talent or celebrity justice. However, it is interesting in a twisted kind of way, focusing on his most famous works and love affairs, and sad too, in that he was extremely sensitive to the gradual loss of his youthfulness and virility, which haunted him throughout his middle-age to the end of his life, and which he reflected in those very same works, one of his last pictures showing the decrepitude of age, and himself objectified as the vibrant spirit imprisoned in that aging flesh. Definitely worth a look...my time was not wasted...more than anything, it made me want to explore his life further.
