Reviews
The item is a CD recording of a wooden spoken version of an unspecified score of Charles Dickens's only opera (ie. no singing) using American accents for English people, and female voices for male roles in places. Introductions, actors' lines and stage directions are relentlessly all read in a manner that does not distinguish them. Listeners should tie their hair on securely before playing. The recording is in fact of the 1992 publication of a score of a reconstruction of Dickens's 1836 opera/burletta; the CD did not include details that would allow the purchaser to know this. None of the supplied information is misleading; it is just that there is not much supplied. You would be better to buy the 1992 score, copies of which are still apparently on the market. Or read the text in an edition of Dickens's works.
